Many patients are not satisfied simply being handed a piece of paper with some numbers and going to pick out a pair of cool, trendy glasses. They want to understand what the optical prescription for glasses or contact lenses means and what the numbers signify. At our
New Rochelle Optical Prescription Center, Dr. Chris DiGiorgio, O.D., wants you to understand and be comfortable with your entire experience. Dr. DiGiorgio feels that communication is key and that educating his patients and helping them to understand all aspects of their diagnosis and treatment plays a major role in keeping their eyes healthy. We want you to not only understand your
New Rochelle Optical Prescription but what is causing you to need glasses in the first place.
Prescription Eyeglasses New Rochelle
Eye disorders, or refractive errors, happen when light rays entering the eye are not able to focus accurately on the middle of the retina. When this occurs the retina is incapable of transmitting a clear message to the brain and you can't see clearly. The three most common refractive errors are myopia (nearsightedness) which is difficulty seeing distant objects clearly, hyperopia (farsightedness) which is difficulty seeing close objects clearly, and astigmatism, which distorts vision due to an irregularly curved cornea. Different from the other disorders because it is almost universal and related to aging, a fourth condition is presbyopia, which leads to problems reading or seeing at arm's length. These refractive errors can’t be prevented, but they can be diagnosed at our
New Rochelle Optical Prescription Center with an eye exam and treated with refractive surgery, corrective glasses, or contact lenses. With an accurate optical prescription, corrective lenses bend the light rays to focus more directly onto the retina. The amount of correction necessary is written as a prescription.
Dr. DiGiorgio will explain to his patients that unlike an eye test, an optical prescription is not a straight measurement of your ability to see. It does not compare eyesight with someone who has perfect vision, the way an eye chart does. Instead, the numbers on your prescription are the specific power that is needed to correct your vision to normal. At our
New Rochelle Optical Prescription Center, Dr. DiGiorgio and our knowledgeable staff are more than happy and capable to explain your numbers to you and that eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions are not the same. Whatever your preference, we will help you to understand your needs so together we can achieve your goals.
